History & significance

A Takht of Sikhism raised over the spot where Guru Gobind Singh held his last court and was cremated in 1708, the inner chamber being called Angitha Sahib. The present building was constructed between 1832 and 1837 under Maharaja Ranjit Singh; it was here that the Guru declared the Guru Granth Sahib his successor.
