History & significance

A Krishna temple near Haripad whose four-armed image, holding conch, discus and butter, is worshipped in the rare Prayoga Chakra form. The sanctum burned down and the present structure was raised in the 19th century under Moolam Thirunal; its raktha-pushpanjali offering is not made at other Vishnu temples.

Sthala katha — the legend

The site is traced to the burning of the Khandava forest, when Arjuna's arrow fell here - giving the place its name Eythoor, later Evoor - and Krishna is said to have consecrated the image while Arjuna made the first offering.
