The Jain temple on Gujarati Street in Alappuzha serves the community descended from forty-two Jain families brought from Kutch to help build up the port town under Dewan Raja Kesavadas. Its two shrines were restored in February 1994, and it holds an image of the 23rd Tirthankara unearthed in Kuttanad, evidence of Jainism's older presence in Kerala.
