The oldest surviving temple in Bengaluru, traced to the Chola period and largely rebuilt under the late Vijayanagara Empire by the Yelahanka chief Kempe Gowda II; excavation at the site has uncovered a tank thought to be some 1,200 years old.
A local chief is said to have been told by Someshwara in a dream to build the temple with a hoard of buried treasure the god pointed him to.
