History & significance

One of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, standing on the south bank of the Kaveri at Kulithalai in Karur district, with hymns sung in its praise by Tirunavukkarasar (Appar).

Sthala katha — the legend

Shiva is said to have appeared to the sage Kanva in the kadamba forest here, whence the place was called Kadambanthurai.
