History & significance

A Kaveri-bank Paadal Petra Sthalam venerated in the Tevaram hymns of Sambandar and Sundarar. Tradition associates the shrine with the Ardhanarisvara form, in which Shiva shared half his body with Parvati.

Sthala katha — the legend

The saint Sundarar is said to have bathed in the Agni theertham here to be cured of his illness.
