A large sixteenth-century temple in Kadapa district whose sanctum holds Rama, Sita and Lakshmana carved from a single block of stone. It grew through several building phases, drew the notice of the traveller Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, and is tied to the Telugu devotional tradition of Annamacharya; the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams took over its administration in 2015.
The town is said to be named for two devotees of Rama, Vontudu and Mittudu, who are remembered as having raised the shrine and received the god's grace on finishing it.
