History & significance

A granite Paadal Petra Sthalam on the western outskirts of Kumbakonam, revered in the 7th-century Tevaram. The temple takes part in the Mahamaham festival held in Kumbakonam every twelve years.

Sthala katha — the legend

Suruchi, cursed into a demon's form, is said to have regained his own after bathing in the temple's sacred spring.
