A Vishnu temple in Kappatralla village of Kurnool district whose complex is credited to the Vijayanagara king Krishnadevaraya, its image said to have been reconsecrated in the 11th century. Subsidiary shrines to Mallikarjuna, Bhramaramba, Vijaya Vinayaka, Dakshinamurthy and Vishwanatha stand in the same enclosure.
The image is said to have been installed at the Koundinya ashrama on the advice of the sage Vasistha to redeem Janamejaya after his serpent sacrifice, and to have been rediscovered centuries later by a cowherd, Golla Koulutla, whose cow poured her milk over the anthill covering it.
