History & significance

The 28th Tevara Paadal Petra Sthalam of Chola Nadu north of the Kaveri, near Vaitheeswaran Koil; it is one of the very few shrines where Hanuman is depicted worshipping Shiva.

Sthala katha — the legend

Hanuman is said to have offered his kundalams (earrings) to Shiva here, giving the deity the name Kundala Karaneswarar.
