History & significance

A soapstone Shiva temple at Turuvekere built about 1260 under the Hoysala king Narasimha III; Adam Hardy classes its tower as Bhumija Nagara raised on a semi-stellate base, joined to the usual Hoysala sanctum, vestibule and closed hall. It is a protected monument under the Karnataka state archaeology division.
