History & significance

A coastal Paadal Petra Sthalam on the northern bank of the Kaveri delta, glorified by Tirugnanasambandar in the Tevaram. Its construction is traditionally credited to the Early Chola king Killivalavan.

Sthala katha — the legend

The goddess of the shrine is herself said to have received her initiation at this place.
