History & significance

A Paadal Petra Sthalam of the Nava Puliyur group of nine 'tiger-town' shrines, glorified by Sundarar in the Tevaram. It is held to be a dwelling place of the sage Patanjali.

The sages Patanjali and Vyaghrapada are believed to have worshipped Shiva at this Puliyur.
