History & significance

A twelfth-century Hoysala shrine at Koodli in Shivamogga district, built in an early and deliberately unornamented Vesara manner. It is protected as a Monument of National Importance, and the surrounding village — a substantial town into the fourteenth century — holds the ruins of more than eight temples and mathas.
