History & significance

A Shaivite temple of three precincts at the centre of Kalakkad town in Tirunelveli district, first raised by the Pandyas in the 13th century. Nayak rulers added its pillared halls and principal shrines in the 15th and 16th centuries, and Boothala Veera Udaya Marthanda Varman gave the musical pillared halls at the front.
