History & significance

A rock-cut Jain monastery and cave temple in Pudukkottai district, used by Shramana ascetics from about the 2nd century BCE. An inscription credits its renovation to a Pandya king of the 7th century, and the Archaeological Survey of India now maintains it as a ticketed monument.
