History & significance

A Shiva temple on Kallang Road begun in 1888 as a shrine by Tamil Hindu workers of the Municipal Gasworks depot, which is why it is still known locally as the Kallang Gasworks Sivan Temple. It was rebuilt in brick in 1934 with funding from the sons of A. V. Irullappa Pillay and renovated again in 1974.
