A Shiva temple at Tirukalukundram built in two parts, one on the hilltop and one at its foot, with a gopuram recalling that of Tiruvannamalai. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, visited by the four great Tamil saint-poets who sang hymns there.
Sage Bharadwaja is said to have asked Shiva for a long life in which to master the Vedas, and Shiva raised three mountains standing for the Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedas to show him that knowledge has no end.
