A Shiva temple at Thiruvadhipuram in Cheyyar, formerly known as Thiruvothur, counted among the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams of the Tamil Saiva canon. Tradition at the site records the saint Tirugnanasambandar turning a male palm tree into a female one, and Arunagirinathar worshipping Murugan here.
When Sambandar could not tell this temple apart from the neighbouring Devadi Raja Perumal temple, Ganesha is said to have appeared before him and pointed out the Shiva shrine.
