History & significance

A shrine near the Alaka branch of the Mahanadi in Jagatsinghpur district traced by archaeological survey to the early 10th century under the Somavamsi kings; ruined by flooding and invasion, it was rebuilt in the early twentieth century around its one-footed Bhairava image.
