An east-facing Chola-period Shiva temple on the bank of the Amaravathi in Tiruppur district, run by the Tamil Nadu HR and CE department with the Arjuneswarar Trust. Twice a year sunlight reflected off the river falls on the lingam, a cremation ground lies before the sanctum as at Kashi, and a marble Dakshinamurthy brought from Kashi is enshrined here.
The temple takes its name from the belief that Arjuna worshipped this lingam in the time of the Mahabharata, and the lingam is said to carry the root impressions of an ancient Arjuna tree.
