A nine-storey octagonal tower some 40 metres high, raised over the samadhi of Baba Atal Rai, son of Guru Hargobind, just south of the Golden Temple. Its lower storeys were directed by Jodh Singh Ramgarhia and the rest funded by sardars and public donation, with the gilt dome given by Desa Singh Majithia.
Atal Rai is said to have restored his snake-bitten friend Mohan to life, and when his father rebuked the display of a miracle he withdrew and gave up his own life in 1628.
