A 19th-century Sikh shrine in Lahore holding the funerary urns of Maharaja Ranjit Singh along with the ashes of four Hindu queens who became sati and seven concubines. Begun by his son Kharak Singh in August 1839 and finished by his youngest son Duleep Singh in 1848, it was the last great state-funded building of independent Punjab before the British annexation of 1849; gilded domes and frescoes of the Sikh gurus and scenes from the Hindu epics cover it.
