Yuksom, West Sikkim, Sikkim · 27.0670°, 88.4670°
The oldest monastery in Sikkim, founded in 1701 above Yuksom, where the three lamas had crowned Phuntsog Namgyal as the first Chogyal in 1642. A two-storeyed square stone building facing south under a tapering tower, its name means the retreat; it once housed thirty monks and remains a stop on the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit.
