One of the three principal Karma Kagyu monasteries of Sikkim founded at the instance of the ninth Karmapa, alongside Rumtek and Ralang, established in 1740 under Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal and later rebuilt by Sidkeong Tulku Namgyal. It lies 28 km from Gangtok, houses around 260 monks and is known for its old murals.
