A Nyingma monastery above Gangtok, first raised in the 1840s under the eighth Chogyal and rebuilt in its present form in 1909 during the regency of Sikyong Tulku. Gutted by fire in 1947 and restored the following year, it houses about ninety monks and remains under the authority of Pemayangtse.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
The site is said to have been chosen by the tantric adept Lama Druptab Karpo, who flew here from Maenam Hill and set up a small gompa.
