Dedicated in 953 by King Rajendravarman to Shiva and to the memory of his parents, this temple stands on what was an island at the centre of the East Baray, now a dry reservoir. Built of sandstone, brick, laterite and stucco with two enclosing walls and three tiers, it carries a central tower flanked by four corner towers, free-standing stone elephants at the terrace corners, and four landing stages at its base showing that it was once reached by boat.
