A Shiva temple a kilometre south of Srivilliputhur, entered through a five-tiered gateway tower within a granite enclosure. Its pillared halls and major shrines were commissioned in the 16th century under Pandya, Vijayanagara and Nayak patronage, and Shiva is venerated here specifically as a healer.
Local tradition holds that Thirumalai Nayak, afflicted by persistent stomach pain, was cured after a forty-eight-day stay at the temple and built the Natarajar hall in gratitude.
