One of the 108 Divya Desams and one of the five Pancharanga Kshetrams of Ranganatha along the Kaveri, at Mayiladuthurai; patronage spanned the Cholas, Vijayanagara and the Madurai Nayaks.

Sthala katha — the legend

The place-name Indalur recalls Indu, the moon, whose curse is said to have been lifted by Vishnu at this shrine.
