History & significance

A moated royal temple laid out in three courtyards with ranks of tiered meru towers, raised in 1634 by Gusti Agung Putu, king of Mengwi, to honour his ancestors; renovated in 1750 and again in 1937, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012 as part of Bali's subak cultural landscape.
