One of the four great pagodas of Amarapura, built in 1786 by the minister Thaung Mingyi and sheltering a standing Buddha image nearly 14.3 metres high. Wrecked by the earthquake of 1838, it was rebuilt on the order of King Pagan Min from 1850 and finished under Mindon in 1853; the 2025 Myanmar earthquake damaged it again.
