History & significance

A Shiva temple at Thirukodikaval on the northern bank of the Kaveri in Thanjavur district. Its present structure is credited to Sembiyan Mahadevi, mother of Uttama Chola, in 979, while the earliest inscriptions on the site date from about 750 in the Pallava period; the Nayanars Appar and Sambandar sang its praises.
