History & significance

Chief among the five Chengannur-area temples attributed to the Pandava brothers and a Divya Desam sung by Nammalvar around 800 CE, with stone inscriptions of the Second Chera empire.

Sthala katha — the legend

Yudhishthira is said to have built this temple in penance for the half-truth he spoke to fell Drona in the Kurukshetra war.
