History & significance

One of the 108 Divya Desams, notable as one of the few historic Indian temples where Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma are all enshrined with their consorts in a single complex.

Sthala katha — the traditional account

What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.

Shiva, wandering as the alms-seeking Bhikshatana, is said to have been fed to fullness here by Lakshmi, who thus earned the name Poornavalli.
