A Vishnu temple in Puducherry town believed to have been founded by the Cholas in the 11th century and enlarged by the Pandyas in the 12th, later rebuilt in the colonial period. It sheltered the images of the Vedapurishvarar temple when that shrine was destroyed in 1748, and its Vasantha mandapa was funded jointly by the town's Hindu, Muslim and Christian residents.
