A Chola temple at Thirubuvanai in Puducherry raised by Parantaka I and carrying later inscriptions of Rajaraja Chola and Rajadhiraja I; those records show it also functioned as a teaching centre for the Vedas and other scriptures, and the building survived the French invasion of the region.
