History & significance

The royal chapel of the Ayutthaya palace, made a sacred precinct by King Borommatrailokkanat in 1448 on the site of the palace founded by Ramathibodi I in 1350, and marked by three bell-shaped chedis raised between 1492 and 1529. Reserved for the royal family and once housing an enormous gold-covered Buddha, it was destroyed in the Burmese sack of 1767.
