A Paadal Petra Sthalam on the Kudamurutti branch of the Kaveri near Ayyampettai, honoured in Thevaram verses by Appar and Sambandar; begun under Aditya I and enlarged by 11th-century Cholas, it keeps inscriptions of Rajaraja I and Rajendra I and a rare circular two-tiered vimana. It is also counted among the seven Saptamatrika shrines.
Vishnu is said to have received his discus, the chakra, after worshipping at this temple, an event remembered in the village's name.
