A Paadal Petra Sthalam of about 1.5 acres with two gopurams, praised in the 7th-century Tevaram hymns; the original complex is held to predate that century and is attributed to the Cholas. The present structure was rebuilt in 1973 and the temple is run by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
